Self-esteem in adolescence
Adolescence marks the beginning of a process of change, where physical, cognitive and physical transformations will combine.ffmajor workers. It is also a key developmental period where self-esteem will experience upheavals. In this process, interpersonal relationships, and more particularly those that are meaningful for the young person, will have an essential role.
Friends represent key players in development. Adolescence is the time for intense friendships and relationships with peers will play a significant role in adolescents' self-esteem. In thffand, although relationships with parents remain important and the latter remain influential, at this time individuals outside the family circle will have a primordial role in adolescents' self-esteem. It turns out in effand that the quality of friendships is linked to adolescents' self-esteem, and close and positive friendships appear to act as a protective factor.
Thus, it would seem that the more the young person perceives the friendly relationship as supportive and positive, the more he/she would feel of having value as a person, thus contributing to high-quality self-esteem.
