Psychological & neuropsychological assessment
What is the purpose of a psychological assessment?
The assessment aims to take a snapshot of the strengths and difficulties at a given moment in order to propose coherent treatment options, to guide the diagnosis (dys-, attention disorder, depression, etc.), to support school adjustments by promoting better taking into account the particularities of each person.
There are numerous tests pursuing complementary objectives: intelligence scales (IQ), aptitude and reasoning tests, attention tests, but also personality tests, behavior questionnaires, depression scale, etc.
VS'aret together we determine following an initial meeting, which tests will best respond to your request and prior clinical hypotheses.
The choice of neuropsychological tests
The choice of tests is made after a multidisciplinary consultation between the psychologist who is following you in therapy and the psychologist who will carry out these tests. It is important to us that these two people are different. The diagnostic hypotheses and the choice of tests may also change during the assessment.
Intellectual, neuropsychological and psycho-affective functioning can thus be assessed precisely by taking into account the uniqueness of each person in their strengths and weaknesses.
The different types of tests
Psychometric tests (assessment of intellectual functioning)
These are the famous IQ tests. The current versions most used in child psychology are the WPPSI4 (2 to 6 years) and the WISC-V for children and adolescents aged 6 to 16.
These tests provide insight into a child's current development and functioning by assessing 5 areas of development – verbal intelligence, spatial efficiency, logical reasoning, working memory and processing speed. The analysis of these 5 areas and the behavior during the handover can point to a DYS or a particular functioning.
There Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale Or WAIS 4 (Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale) is the most widely used scale to measure intelligence.intelligence adults, also used in young people over 16 years old.
The validity and statistical properties of the scale are regularly checked and improved.
Preceded by a clinical interview, the test takes approximately 2 hours.
The interpretation of the resulting scores is carried out in the context of the psychological assessment which includes clinical interviews and possibly other psychological or neuropsychological tests
Neuropsychological tests
This type of test aims to understand certain specific cognitive functions. Certain large batteries make it possible to understand different cognitive functions (NEPSY, NEPSY2), while others are interested in a particular function (attention for TEA-ch eg.). The Figure of Rey allows an exploration of a child's visuo-constructive abilities and spatial memory through the reproduction of a complex geometric figure.
It is obviously necessary to have several tests in the same area to have a relevant and rigorous evaluation.
We may not have all the tests to respond to your request in this area and we will then redirect you to a trusted colleague specializing in neuropsychology.
Personality, behavior, anxiety, depression questionnaires
Questionnaires can be given to the child himself, to parents or to teachers (hetero-questionnaires). This involves understanding, for example, the level of anxiety (RCMAS), depression (CDI) or self-esteem (Coopersmith). This type of tool also makes it possible to assess attentional complaints (Conners self-questionnaire).
Personality tests can also be used like the NEOPI.
These tests aim to better understand the personality of the child or adult. They also explore its psycho-affective and emotional functioning.
How does the assessment take place?
First date : Interview with the patient (and his parents if it is a child) in order to understand the request and collect the necessary information.
Second appointment: Examination of balance sheets
Third appointment: Return of results
How long does an assessment take?
It takes approximately between 4 to 8 hours of assessment. Added to this is a 1 hour preliminary interview and 1 hour feedback where you will be given a written report.
What is the cost of an assessment?
